Electrical problem

I have a 98 VW Sharan and for some reason the indicators are not working. Also the central locking is not working and a few other electrical things have stopped working too. I have just fitted a replacement gearbox in the car - could this have anything to do with my electrical problems? Any advice would be thankfully received.

The Sharan is a VAG product, you would get a much better response if you posted this in the section relating to the Sharan.

I don't think the gearbox replacement has anything to do with the faults you have.pull back the rubber boot on top of the tailgate and look at the wiring,if damaged, they can cause various faults.

Thanks for that, I'll check it out.

I have been looking through the forum and I have found another member with exactly the same problems - no indicators, no central locking, no windscreen wipers (except speed 2), headlight full beam works but will not stay on when selected, rear demist works but will not stay on when selected and possibly some other issues.

These problems make me wonder if there is some sort of control unit that may be faulty?

The X contact relief relay (18) in position 4 ,supplys power to various functions might be worth checking
