Sunroof

I've got a 1990 Mk II Golf GTI that has a manual sunroof that just ratchets when you use the internal handle. After a bit pushing & shoving you can coax it open but when you try to wind it closed its all lop sided and doesn't close into the correct place unless you again give it some pushes & shoves. Can anyone advise whats wrong and how can I remove the sunroof for remedial attention.

sounds like the teeth on the cogs or the runners have worn out.
had similar thing happen on the windows in my old golf.
a mannual would be really helpful for finding out about the repair, this something that is fairly inexpensive (the mannual this is) and will be so useful for the whole time have the car.
