hi! my dad has a 2002 (52) VW passat 2.0i and has had a few problems with the cooling system in the past, most recent was in spain and he had to spend about £600 to get it fixed (not sure what it was). and recently it has been happening again, it flashes up the STOP message.
can anyone help!!!

wouldnt this make white smoke come out the exhaust as well?
he has an invoice from spain from the coolant work he had out ther and the only bit i can read is he had a new radiator.
if its head gasket wont there be white sludge under the oil filler cap aswell?
i will check in a mo :)

it all depends how bad the leaking gasket is,i had headgasket failure on my prevous car and the only signs i had were mayo on the coolant cap but a compression test confirmed the it was indeed HGF.....caused by a broken water pump not cirulatiing the collant around the engine resulting it to overheat
