hey guys,

followed all the ccm threads over the months, and even got my garage to clean out the drain holes 6 months ago.

so imagine my surprise when my alarm starts going off yesterday after 48 hours of constant rain. first thing i do, check carpets - bone dry.

after 20 mins fooling round in the rain trying to lock car but not arm alarm - ended up taking out fuse 14 for the alarm.

what do i do next guys?

appreciate your experience.......

what type of alarm do you have? is it a votex? if so then this is a common problem.

if not then i would check your carpets again by pulling them up and having a feel.i didnt think my car was leaking water as my carpets where dry to the touch BUT after noticing my car steamed up one morning i pulled up the carpets and there was some water sat around the CCM,not a lot but some.

theres alot of sound proofing in the floor so it could take a while for it to seep upwards to where you will be able to feel it.

not all leaks are visable,i found out by pure luck that my windscreen was leaking and running on the inside of the A pillar, down the inside of the foot plate and into the area of the CCM.

i would deinfatly pull up the carpet and double check just to put your mind at rest...keep an eye on all things electrical aswell,if ANYTHING starts playing up then its a classic sign

hope this helps mate

I've got exactly the same problem, have been feeling the dry carpet but obviously it may be worse beneath it. I've booked my car into the local VW specialist so they can have a look as eveything else is working fine, only the alarm has been playing up. I'll report back the results.

If it's just the alarm, check the bonnet switch. If it thinks the bonnet has been opened it will cry every time you set it.

Thats interesting as I opened all the doors and bonnet (on a few occasions) and I don't know if it is a conincidence but the indicators now flash when I lock the car with the remote but I'm too scared to leave it alarmed overnight as it would always go off in the middle of the night . I just want to see what VAG COM has to say if theres no errors then it could have been as simple as opening the bonnet etc but I did do this on a few occasions with no success.

fortunately not suffered this problem(yet)but, mates passat had the alarm go off intermittently, the problem was water running down a wiring harness, which then filled small connector blocks with moisture and the usual green corrosion,i think they were on passenger side?so,with switch cleaner/wd40,he cleaned the connections, and problem solved.hope this helps:1zhelp:also lifted battery and made sure drain holes were clear(they werent) and that pollen filter was dry

I had this problem and it was due to a leak in the rear screen washer in the tailgate (is yours an estate?) The leak messes up the microswitch and the alarm keeps thinking someone is trying to open the tailgate. A regular problem and there are other posts on here on this subject. You can get a kit to repair the washer pump, but a whole new pump is cheap and easy to fit.

Just got the car back and the diagnostics said that it was the bonnet switch was at fault, I noticed that it was hard to open so the whole release and switch etc have been greased so I will see what happens. Already had the tailgate issue, the car also told me that the tailgate was open whilst I was driving along !

it depends where you go mate,my local VW dealer charge an hours labour which is £56 +vat but an independant garage might charge less

if you can get it for £30 and its from a trusted garage then go for it mate :biglaugh:
