problem using vag-com software

I believe that you need the fully registered version to access air bags (not the free version).....
What area are you in?
You cant clear crash data just fault code's

There are issues with some of the airbags fitted to B5.5 Passats - I had a big warning message using VAGCOM to scan the bus on my 2001 Passat.

I can't remember exactly, but there were certain types of device fitted that will permanently malfunction if scanned. I think the advice was to skip the airbag scan and determine the exact part number before trying to access the airbag systems.

I'll post the exact message the next time I plug the car in...

What is happening/not happening exactly?

Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, with the sidelights switched on. When you reconnect, connect the terminal instantly without bouncing and dragging it on the battery post.

The issue is a bug with certain airbag controllers, not VAGCOM.

The article doesn't mention Passats, but I would check the number anyway just to be sure.

Out of interest, why do you need to access the airbag controller?

After a crash where the bags have deployed, you need to buy a new SRS Airbag control unit - same with most makes.
