Got my cambelt, tensioners and waterpump replaced this week as i've done 80k miles - its an A6 2.5 tdi. It was done at a VAG specialist, who for the time being will remain nameless.
Anyway, I was suspicous that the car just didn;t look like it'd been worked on, like the front bumper which was well dirty, didn't have any smudges on it, where it'd been taken off, so I had a look under the bonnet, took the engine cover off, and unclipped the plastic cambelt cover. The toothed belt didn't look that worn, nor did it look brand new, and the belt to it's right, the smooth one, definately didn't look new.
Can anyone tell me how to easily locate the water pump, as if I can see it it should be easy to see if its new - i.e. it won't be coated in dirt/oil etc.
Thanks.
