hi mate it is a special pd oil specificly for pd engines i use to use fuchs titan super synth available from gsf dont be tempted to use any other thats very important. oil leads a very hard life in these engines and its got to be pd specific

Use Quantum Platinum straight from the VW dealer.

Check the handbook for the VW approved spec. number.eg.VW 505.... for your engine type.use a well known brand, not the chip shop branded stuff!!

I've used a hi synthetic by Millers. I drain every 6 months. Just got some Motul PD specfic... it was on offer from Opie oils. This is fully Syn so will stay in 12 months.

Ensure PD 506.01 or 505.01 507 may also be ok; I stand to be corrected!!??

I like to use 5w40 in the TDi

Quantum Platinum is PD perfect and 5w/40.

The VW spec is 505.01 for fixed intervals and 506.01 for LongLife (Curse that!). The oil is 5W40 for fixed and 5W30 for LL, but this isn't as important as the spec since that defines the needed additives.

If you're on a fixed interval, I'd recommend you stay away from 506.01 since it's alot more expensive than 505.01 and doesn't offer much benefits on a fixed oil change interval.

I have same engine. 5W-30 fully synthetic is recomended.I use 507 00 produced by Comma for all VW & AUDIs ect. £30 for 5L + vat. Use it for fixed or long life.:approve:

Depends on if the car is on fixed service schedule or variable service schedule?

If you are on fixed service you will need an oil that meets the VW505.01 spec such as these http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-751-vw-50501-oil.aspx

If you are on longlife service then we would recommend a VW507.00 spec such as these http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-754-vw-50700-oil.aspx

I use Q8 oil 506.01 0W30 longlife and i change it every 17.000KLM instead of 30.000KLM no problem at all specially in very cold winter

How do you determine whether your engine is on a fixed or longlife schedule, what's the difference?

How often is it serviced? fixed service is every 10,000 miles or once a year regardless, longlife can take up to 18 odd months and 20,000 miles.

Only by interrogating the instrument panel using a diagnostic computer can you tell for sure which schedule it is on. Whatever it is on, I strongly advise you to go to annual servicing but stick with the Longlife III spec oil if you wish.

Hi,

Just had the car serviced on the fixed term scheme from the ********. Not sure what oil was used. Dosen't say on the invoice, just something about 'LAVS'?! What's that?

Thanks.

Not sure what LAVS means, could it possibly be the cost of disposing of the old oil in an environmentally friendly way?

Final question, I think...

With the fixed oil change regime, I assume a service indicator light comes on after 10k/one year, or is this only applicable with the LongLife variable regime?

I guess you can reset this manually.

Also, is another way of telling whether your car is on a fixed or longlife regime by checking the countdown to next service indicator. If it reads over 10k, can you assume it's on longlife?

Yes, fixed schedules will have a 10k and count down towards service (on some anyway). Not sure about the variable ones, no one here has one of them

Turns out LAVS is Audi's longlife oil AVS! i.e. must be 5W-30.

Someone here (can't find post), put a litre of 5W-40 instead of 5W-30 to top-up. I don't think it shoud be too much of a problem on the 10K/1year fixed term service as they get an oil change then.

What's the difference between 5W-30 and 5W-40? Thinner? Thicker?

How many litres does the oil tank hold? 3 litres?

when cold, a 5w-40 will flow at roughly the same rate as a 5w-30. When at 100C, the 5w-30 will be a bit thinner

Thanks for that. So its not total disaster if both are mixed? Thinner means it gets to more parts of the engine for longer?

They're fine to mix and due to it only being a litre, isn't going to make much difference at all

5 40 pd oil for me all the way... Annual service but I dunno what the mileage is set to, roughly 10k methinks. Took her off the longlife program when I had her 2 years ago when she was @ 75k, currently 120 plus now and going fine.

What grade oil does everyone recommend for engine oil changes?Castrol edge 5w30 LL and change it after 10k.... The engine will last forever [emoji123][emoji106] 502.00 and 505.00 and 505.01 is the specs the specs 507.00 is good eather do not make mistake like meny are doing... Don't change the oil in PD engine after 15...20k...... It will resolt in injector, camshaft and hidrolic lifter damage......
