I really like the 'fresh look' of the new Polo but paying nearly £17k for the model below is way too expensive especially being a petrol model. Also, I can't see the logic in VW only offering two diesel models (1.6TDi SE/SEL, £13,205/£14,910), at this price it's worth spending abit more and buying a Golf.

Yes, if you take a top of the range model and add on a selection of expensive factory options then the price will seem high. I have to say that I think that the new Polo in SE spec is well priced against the Fiesta, Clio and others. Especially when you consider that several brokers are offering nearly £1000 off (or more). I do agree with you about the diesel options though. I would have liked to see the 75ps diesel available on cheaper 's' spec, the 75 and 90ps on SE and 90 and 105ps on SEL. You can buy the equivalent Seat Ibiza with 1.6 TDI 105 ps engine for significantly less than the Polo. I also agree that the prices do overlap somewhat with the Golf but then they always have. I am looking at buying a new Polo for March but am also considering a basic Golf or Skoda Yeti, all of which with a healthy £1500 broker discount will cost around £12500. I am finding it a tough, if pleasant, choice that I will have to make soon.....

I think it is a bit expensive too. The glaring omission (again!) is the lack of a trip computer on the SE spec. I really cannot fathom the pennypinching VW sometimes exhibit!

I disagree, I was looking to buy the Mk6 Golf in the GT spec. But by the time I had added the extras I wanted the price was crazy expensive!
However I can buy the 1.2 tsi for about 14500 (about a grand less if bought through dealdrivers) and virtually all the extras bringing it to about 16.5k. The minimun for a bog standard mk6 gt is about 18k, so I recon it is a good deal, especially when you comare the price to a Fiesta which is so expensive and poor quality.

I will certainly be buying the Polo 1.2 tsi SEL as soon as I have driven it to confirm the engine is up to scratch.

Dealers prices are always the starting prices prior to negotiation .
