Hi i have a 2001 Passat 1.9 TDI 130 Sport.

A few weeks ago, i was driving the car and the alternator workshop light came on several times. IT has since gone away.

However i now have a few faults and wondered what peoples thoughts were.

Firstly when i start the car up 1st thing in the morning, the lights dim after about 30 seconds so i presume i do actually have an alternator fault.
Secondly, the temp gauge only work sometimes and also the idle is slightly lumpy. Varies between 900 -1500 rpm. Performance is excellent still so doubt air-mass meter is faulty.

I am having the alternator replaced tomorrow, does anybody think the idle is linked to the alternator or a sensor to do with the temperature gauge.

It will be the CTS.

Simple fix on my car- it was simply an alternator fault. New alternator and no problems.

Hi,

it could'nt be something as simple as a slipping belt could it?
