Talking to a mate at work about aircon today and a thought came to mind.
I thought the small grille on the aircon controls was the temp.sensor, if it is
and as you know we have split climate on our cars, how can 1 sensor do 2 temps....

I bet A8tech knows :p

I'd hazard a guess that it goes into an "average" mode.

I'm guessing it uses the average temperature of the cabin to work out the two temperatures its supposed to be outputting (by comparing the cabin temp to the potential difference between the two different desired teperatures).

either that.. or it employs some form of black magic!

Good question!

Black magic or whatever.
I'm now going to test it to the limit, my side hot, pax side cold, lets see how it copes...

The temp flap can be diverted to either or both sides and as there are outlet sensors fitted to the outer and foot well vents then the climate control can monitor the temp.So with out going to deep the temp flow can be diverted from the climate control panel so she wont's cold and you wont warm the flap alters the temp per side and diverts.
If you need a proper answer I will dig my notes out.

Thanks,so temp.sensors in the vents allow the system to regulate the difference to the individual sides.
