thinking of having mine done , but at 9 years old and 101k on the clock , im worried my car might fall apart.

so question is at what age and mileage did you have yours done and what mileage have you covered since and any problems along the way . please help me decide YES or NO to a remap .

101k miles? It's just run in man!

(Forget that I'm a site sponsor for a moment)

I had an A4 1.9TDi PD130 which I bought with 100k on it, remapped it at 110k and never looked back. Sold it with 157k on it to a taxi driver and according to the DVLA tax checker, it's still going!

I also had a Bora 1.9TDi PD130 which I bought at a similar mileage (102k I think) which I remapped almost immediately, put 30k on that and sold it to a mate of mine who is still running it now.

Honestly, providing it's done by a reputable company and they don't map it to within an inch of it's life, you'll be fine. I'm speaking as a user rather than someone selling their wares.

So, when shall I book you in? :D

If it's all in good order and well maintained, you should be fine, but most will refuse to do it until problems are corrected. I had mine done by a forum sponsor around 18 months ago. It was unbelievable that some people brought their cares to have a £250 rolling road and remap and yet they were right sheds with bald wobbly tyres and broken spark plugs etc.. I had mine done at around 130,000 miles and it now has 155,000

thanks lads , thats very informative . :beerchug:

do you consider Stage 1 - ECU remap to 165bhp - £275 to be a safe load , the guy who will be doing mine quoted 174 bhp as his limit to be safe , 186 bhp is too smokey ,he informs me and near to the destruct button for turbo and clutch.

to be honest i mainly drive at 60 to 70 to work on a 40 mile trip , its just my ar** dyno is used to the car now , this might just make me keep it and not look for another.

I would say 174bhp is closer to the limit and 186bhp is over it to be honest, hence why we quote 165bhp. It's not all about the figures, more the way it drives.

is front tyre and suspension wear a concern if driven sensible ,with the extra grunt , i suppose vw toned these cars down , as the later vw cars have the same pd engine with greater bhp , or am i talking pollox ??:biglaugh:

I had my 2004 Passat 130 TDi remapped last March at 120k miles, now done 139k and had no problems whatsoever. Fuel consumption has improved very slightly on average (47mpg average on the remap as opposed to 46.5mpg before) despite me using the extra power available now. The power is amazing and the car drives so much smoother. I bought an ST3 unit from Chippeduk (now Viezu) which allows me to revert back to the standard map to remind me what a difference the remap makes. The only very minor downside is that the trip computer average mpg is very optimistic with the fast road map applied (over reads by approx 10% compared to an average of 4% before); this makes you think you are using less fuel than you actually are, however I always work mine out manually when I fill the tank up.

ok , 1 st dyno 139 bhp @ 3800 rpm 3rd gear

2nd dyno 178.1 bhp @ 3450 rpm 3rd gear

1st dyno 220 ft/lb @ 2375 rpm

2nd dyno 298 ft/lb @ 2350 rpm

i now apply power steadily in any gear and press the happy pedal a small bit more and she just goes and goes , no more depending on turbo boost and running out of puff . power delivery is alot smoother and rapid , total transformation - well happy .

Excellent result! I remember when I got mine done I couldn't believe the transformation. The performance will get stronger when you do a few more miles as the map adapts itself to the car.

thanks pete ,guys who did it said a 100 miles or so and things would settle down , the bit smoke etc at the end of the rev range, although i doubt i'll be doing the revs he did on the dyno in 3rd gear. :beerchug:

Just had a map done today (1.9 TDI 130bhp), impressed so far, was wondering though, as i have a 5 speed box would i need a remap if i changed it out for a 6 speed box? or would I gain anything by changing to a 6 speed?

No you wouldn't need another remap as the gearbox is a purely mechanical item. However, in my opinion this would be a pointless conversion as the TDi's do not need a 6 speed gearbox. They have loads of torque which copes easily with the gearing of the 5 speed, I think you will find that the gearing of 5th is virtually identical to 6th in the 6 speed box.

sprayed a tin of halfords 10k boost into intake , car seems alot better now . I also finally got the correct plug for the n75 valve as it had crimpped ends on wires, some one had snapped original plug off at some point.

Your right, the 5 speed pulls perfectly well, i was just thinking it would be handy to have another gear to keep the revs down when doing motorway mileage? Or does it work like that? Are there any other advantages if any of a 6 speed over a 5 speed box?

Thanks!

I to have been thining of getting it done, and thats a super result passat 130 tdi.

my only worrys is that you now have more power / torque at a little less rpms, does the power drop off sharply after that?

PS
Mine had now done 252,000 miles, is that a bit much lol?

cool that's sounds super then, as my power does drop off a load after about 3,000 rpm thanks for letting me know.
