Hi

Got A 1999 Audi A4 Tdi Red I Facelift Model Here,

Not Sure What Happened But Car Will Not Start, Will Crank For 3-4 Seconds Then Shut Down,
Also I Notice The Mileage Has Gone From 150,000 To 999999.
I Left Itgnition On For 45mins But Didn’t Work Then I Disconnented The Battery For 10 Minutes No Good Either

Any Advice Appreciated

Hi there,
I think the immobilizer is housed in the instrument panel so if the cluster has failed then it might explain why the car won’t start. Can you read the fault codes?

Indeed it sounds like your instrument cluster has gone south.

Replacements are readily available on Ebay in the majority of cases, you will need VCDS and the PIN/SKC of both clusters to code a new one in. If you don't have that, then I can help you. Where are you located?

hi

i got another cluster today, same make for this, was told these are coded,
what is the procedure to code it to my car, is there any programs i could use, i do have the pin code from old one.
the main dealer would charge me an arm and a leg to do it i suppose plus the hassle to put in on a trailer and bring it to them..

thanks

The software and hardware I use cost me in the region of £2,500. You need the pin for the new cluster and a diagnostic tool with advanced adaptation capabilities such as VCDS.

Hi there
I did a cluster swop in the summer and it cost me about 55 pounds at Shrewsbury Audi.

thats not too bad of price mate, but i spoke to the main dealer today and explained it to him and that i had a secondhand cluster -he says that they can not adjust the mileage back to what it originally was if its a second hand unit only can be done on a new unit
he says that the ecu could be blown too which would be expensive.

Your dealer is right and they won't be able to change the mileage. I code these clusters in for £60 and it takes a little over an hour.
