:1zhelp: Hi there.
I have a March 09 1.4 160 Eos, all was well for the 1st 2200 miles / 18 weeks, really pleased with the car and engine. But from 2200miles the engine began to emit a squeak when changing gear. After a trip to my local VW dealer I was told it was a 'characteristic' of the 1.4 160 engine and was therefore not faulty. The squeak comes from the water pumps solenoid clutch assemby which under certain load/RPM vibrates and as the 2 halves come together a high pitched metallic squeak can be heard. VW say this is normal!! although on the demo I drove and on my car for the first 2200 miles there was no sign of the noise. How can this be normal? :zx11:
I am told by VW that all 1.4 160 engines will develop this noise after bedding in, but I do not think an engine should squeak, I based my engine choice on a car which did not squeak so I do not expect an 18 week old car to squeak either.
Please reply if you have had/have/heard of this same problem in any of the VW 1.4 engines regardless of the model, I am currently in lengthy discussions with VW/my dealer as they say that VW Germany is NOT investigating a fix for this issue.
Cheers Phill

Somewhat late reply, but might be worth reading these Mk6 threads...
