I am in the middle of a head gasket job on my 1997 a4 quatro 2.8, I have everything pretty much torn down, I have yet to remove the timing belt the intake manifold and obviously the heads. I have machined a tool/bar for locating the camshaft positions, and should work fine, the one thing I am not comprehending is that when I pull the cam gears off, they will just roll freely.
When the cam gears are off the cams will not move? If this is the case I should have no worries, Right?
Also any DIY tips for making a crank TDC tool?
Any other tips and help would be appreciated.
By the way getting to those exhaust flanges is a real SOB, any tips?
