Paint scratches...

hi all

Just a quick question about getting rid of fine scratches on my paint work...

The guy who owned my golf before me had dogs, there are light scratches where the dogs have clearly been scratching the panel behind the passenger doors (they also left the seats stinking, but thats another story). The marks seem to be to much for a Tcut, but I cant be too sure as Ive not used Tcut before. Also they appear to small for the chip paint.

I have seen scratch repair kits on ebay, but wasnt sure if they would be any good.

Has anyone used kits like this, or would anybody suggest another solution? Would there be a technique to using the chip paint to create a seamless perfect finish?

T cut can work very well for surface scratches that don't go through the laquer. Anything deeper is likely to need to be repaired by a specialist. The touch-up kits are only really useful for chips, and can look terrible depending on the paint colour and condition. Can you get a pic up so that people can advise?

if T-cut cant get the marks out.. a decent colour coded polish is a good option before any..

I have just had a similar problem with my kids grinding the winter dirt into the paint with their hands. (Little scoundrels)

I have taken the step of buying a Porter Cable and various polishing bonnets etc.

Its not arrived yet, but from past experience using a professional polisher, you can clear up just about anything that is not down to the primer or below. And with little effort. You won't marvel at paint shop jobs after you have one of these.

Its around £200 all in (polisher, pads, swirl polish), but that's cheaper than any pro job and then you have it for the rest of the car to bring up to an amazing shine.

There's a guy on e-bay who sells these at around the best rate I could find. The random orbit Porter Cable is by all accounts many times superior to any cheaper rotary than can burn your paint in an instant they can work but the risk is really a bit high.

Cheers Chillout, but 200 quid is a bit out of my budget atm.

I've posted a couple of blurry pics. What you think guys? would a colour coded polish do the job? If so what brand?

I agree with RickT. Good bit of T cutting and some colour polish. Should only cost a tenner. Can't do any harm can it? Just be careful you don't go too deep with the T cut.

I agree just use a good T-cut and a colour magic polish, just watch what u buy of ebay it might be all what it say's it is :)

alright guys,

I'll get some pics as soon as poss. The car is now dirty, and wont have the time to clean it till after my exams (only three left!!).
