Today i got sandwiched and now my new passat looks like its been wrighten off,

A VW Transporter Taxi 2005 model rammed me up the rear end this afternoon, at about 30mph, i was not moving, i was sat a couple of meters behind a ford focus who was waiting for a car to turn right and let us go,

Long story stort i was whacked so hard i was shunted into the back of the Focus, the focus rear looks pushed in when you look close at it, we could all drive away from the area after the police took notes etc etc, my insurance company have taken my passat away for an inspection of the damage, i think its the end for that passat as the rear has been pushed in and the underpan floor area has been kinked, the front has been kinked inwards and all the plastics are busted as they are designed to be in a crash,

im ok, a bit of the old whip lash pain, i went to A&E for a cheek up, nothing serious at this point, but still pains in the not neck area, going to pop down to my GP for a chat at some point tomorrow,

Enjoy the shunt pics,

Gutted, looked like a nice motor. Wish I had 4motion on mine.
The main thing is everyone is OK. Do you reckon it's worth using it for spares? The 4 motion system and engine should still be OK and worth a few bob?

The car was driving perfect after the bash, its just the pannels and body is all out of line, the car will 99% sure end up in the breakers yard, so someones gonna get some good bits me thinks,

im already shopping for my next passat sport!

im crying on the inside :( what a waste... typical it had to be a taxi to cause the accident....

sweeping generalizations aside, at least you're ok.... although from those pics, it looks like he was doing more than 30 when he hit you?

glad to hear your ok though mate :beerchug:

Ouch!

TDi AND 4mo, drool

Without wanting to sound like those fools in the back of the newspapers, seriously keep your neck in check, don't shrug off any pain.

Due to the panel damage and the cost to pop it all back together, it looks like a write off. Maybe buy it back to part it out?

<vulture on>If it's full leather..... :biglaugh:</vulture>

without having a proper look as looks more pannel damage..

The problem you have is that it will cost about £2200 for the repairs including paint i bet..

From the pictures provide i think the following..

Rear bumper.. (of course!)
Rear Tirm.
Rear Breaker bar. (plus another damaged which is unseen)
Rear Clips
Boot floor panel pushing out and re-alined
New Boot.... (Unless all the creases are ok.. so it will be able to be knocked out and filled, (seen worse than that repaired)
New boot hinges. (more than likely be bent)
Clusters appear to be fine..

Rear wings look ok on photo.

Front end..

New bonnet..
Wings look ok from photo
New headlight... (or just new mountings)
New front section..
Front Bumper.. As long as its not cracked or deformed to a great deal.. ... i bet you can get than refiited and re-sparyed.
New front skirt and panel, new front fog..

From looking at it, its going to be hit or miss as an insurance write off...

The car is worth about 4k - 5k i would say depending on miles....

HOWEVER.. As Taxi campanies dont wont to lose there no claims... get a few quotes and apporach them for a cash settlement. that way it does not go on the cars HPI check wjhen you come to sell it..

Well i spoke to the garage where it went for assesment today, the repaire will cost just over £5500, and for a car thats priced at about £6k + rent-a-car at £300 to £400 per week, The garage stated that the car would not be fixed for at least 5 weeks should the insurance company say fix it, BTBH i realy dont feel they will bother after speeking to them today, The Good news is if found 2 2003 (52 plates) Passat TDI sports,

1st has half leather and swade (cant spell) in Met Blue with a grey interier with a 3rd rear head rests, No front fog lights and has a Tow Bar fitted, Im not sure if a Tow bar is a good sign on a car as it may have been used to tow a large load, or is it a bonus as an extra selling point later down the road?

2nd Is the same looking car as my silver one again on a 52 plate, Has a Black cloth interier with no marks on, Has front fogs, No Tow Bar,

Both have about the same milage, Both at the same price, But im not sure what one to snap up, Iv not asked if any of them are 4 motion, but i think they both are as it was a serch option

Like the spec of the blue one because of the seats but i like the silver one as its silver and has the front fogs,

What would you take? and why?

RickT
28-04-2007, 09:33 AM

The seats in the blue one are the nicest you will ever sit in. I have them in my car and they are infinitely better than any cloth ones. How often do you use the car seats? How often do you use the fog lights? Those questions should help you decide which car to go for.
I have a tow bar tow, which looked like new. When I asked about it, he said it's been used 3 times. Check the condition of the tow bar and the electrical sockets for an idea of it's use.

P.s. The leather/alcantara seats were a £1500 option.

Well i went to see the blue beast today, nice tidy car, but there was something up with it, 125k on the clocks and only 5 service stamps in the book, and masive gaps between services, also the gear box felt very lose and the shocks felt a bit bouncy, i know what a sport should feel like, and that one just did not feel like one, warn out would a good word id say, a bit flabby, not as responsive as my sport that i just lost,

so all in all i walked away from it very diserpointed, but the serch goes on,

shame looks like a clean car but at least everyone is ok ,make sure if it is written of you get a fair price as they do not come cheap the trade and private sellers are well aware these cars are very popular and in good demand all prices reflect this and trade money for one is almost none existant

Seems you were lucky, dont tell me you got the parts in silver TOO !!
The insurance co could have done what you have and saved a packet, no wonder the premiums are so bleedn high is it?
What are you doing about the closed up door shuts? I wondered if the shell crumple zones did just that?
Good luck anyway:biglaugh:

well things are moving in the right direction in my garage, iv atacked the front end today, stripped down all the front bits, saved all the non broken parts, then loaded them onto the new slam pannel, and put most of it back together, i still need to get some new bits before i can say the front is done, the wing also needs bending back to shape, i felt good about it as iv never taken the front of a passat off before, i had a peep at the cam belt when i had a min, it looks almost brand new, so thats one less job to do,

its starting to take shape,

make sure you get your neck looked at, and make sure you claim, i'm not one for claiming as it bumps up insurance for everyone as so many people do it.

But i was in a similar crash, and the physio told me that it was not only my back and neck but my shoulder as well. All is ok now and I also got £2.5k
