Hi all,

Just bought my Audi cab...1st one ive ever had and its great..

Had a little concern over the brake pedal feel though....

Seems a little hard, and you have to give it a good push for the brakes to work..The brakes do work excellently though and there is very little pedal travel.Just feels a little "dead".

I thought about the servo, and hey...there isnt one there.

having a quick look around the net i see my car may have "hydraulic brake assist"??:1zhelp:

have no idea's at all about this system. Some people have mentioned a "bomb" or accumulator..

Can anyone gimme a heads up on the system, and if my "bomb" is buggered would this give my "dead" pedal feeling??

Any help or info appreciated..

Cheers

gary

Hi Gary.
sounds like the same setup on your car as on my chevy astrovan,
and just to let you know that the pedal on this kind system is a bit hard to press, ie its not as soft as a servo system, on my chevy there is a brake valve and if you do any kind of work on the brakes you have to set this valve back up, not sure if this is the same as your audi?
if you need any more info on this valve or the accumulator let me know and i will look it up in my chevy manual, not sure if it will help but it sound like the same kind of setup to me.
all the best.
steve.

Hi Steve....

thanks for that info...Having a look aroud the net,i think i have a problem with the accumulator.Dont think its holding its hydraulic pressure..
From what i have read,on my Audi i have a flashing brake symbol when i 1st start in the morning,it last around 5 secs i would say..But i think this isnt supposed to flash at all,and the light indicates low pressure in the brake system.
Prices for these accumulators seem expensive...If this is a fault im a bit dischuffed as the car has only done 56k...!!!:( :( :(

I get that very same flashing light mate, however mine doesn't seem to go off until i start the car

Hi Mate,

I gotta say,i only ever just jump in the car then start it..Light flashes for 5-7 secs approx and then goes out..

From what i can gather, this indicates a fault as the light shouldnt flash at all..And in conjunction with the brakes having a hard pedal,im taking an educated guess at the accumulator bein faulty???

its only a guess, but im fairly sure the brake pedal shoul feel better than it does..Although it does stop well, there feels little assistance..

I would love someone to tell me thats the way they are!!

Not sure if this will help or the normal cost of these brake accumulators but I recently bought a stainless steel exhaust from this company. Its quality is excellent - I notice they also supply brake accumulators too-
http://homepage.internet.lu/customautocraft/typeB3-B4_80_90_S2_RS2.htm#BRAKES

They specialise in parts for older Audis.

Probably worth a look to see if they could help with your parts too.

Hope that this helps,
Bob

Cheers bob..

Prices certainly look fantastic...No mention of a 99 model on the list, although i reckon mine should be the same as an earlier one???

It would be worth emailing them to ask (you maybe would need your VIN number).

The only problem I found was that you couldn't pay by credit card directly and had to use a system such as Paypal / Moneybookers etc. This was also okay but was an extra step to set up.

Good luck with finding the correct parts,

Bob

Excellent - glad he could sort it out for you. I also found him very helpful when he was sorting out my exhaust parts over the past couple of weeks.

Regards,
Bob
