Hello to everyone I need a bit of advice:

I have removed the faulty gearbox from my 1995 M reg A6 Avant 2.5 Tdi as it was jumping out of 3rd gear. It is a 5sp manual gearbox (code from the workshop manual is 012) and the engine code is AEL I think.

I need a relacement and am finding difficulty in locating one for a decent price. Quotes of used ones of £610+ which is way too much for me. There is an option of getting the faulty one repaired but I would rather get a replacement. My question is are there any other vechiles that have the same gearbox to widen my choice of donor cars. I have been told that some vans have the same box but not sure?? Is the A4 1.9Tdi gearbox compatible?

All advice welcomed

Cheers

If it is non quattro, sack it and get another one.

You should be able to get one off any AEL or AAT engined A6, the AAT (115bhp) is more common the AEL (140bhp) could also come as quattro.

Also make sure if yours is a five speed get the same as I don't know if the six speed goes straight in without further mods.
