My 96 TDi saloon passed its MOT with no advisory this week.
The tester said in passing that the rear shockers were a bit bouncy.
So I checked.

The off side is bouncy but the N/S is not, so one needs replacing.

Had a price from breakers for £20 for the complete unit (with spring).
Or £38 new shock absorber from VW.

If I got the S/H one I would try to fit it myself, but probably a garage for the new one.

The breakers I use a VW only and have used them a few times already.

So are there any horrors if you replace a shocker with a used one?
Never done the job so not sure if it is tricky or not.

Any opinions welcome.

Shocks should ideally be fitted in pairs. It is potentially dangerous to have one functioning better than the other. Of course, that's what you have got now, so you could argue that changing one will even things up. Try euro car parts or GSF, you may be able to get a pair for a reasonable price.
