Where does the DIS get it's information from....

I filled it up tonight at Grimsby and reset the trip and the DIS said 380Miles...
I got home with 29miles on the trip and the DIS read 375Miles...

DIS No 1 resets itself after two hours of been off.

DIS No 2 reads 23.3MPG (23.3MPG x 14.1Gallons = 328.53Miles)

Let me know your views on this...

Is this a maths test?

I get about 490 miles from a tank.... :biglaugh:

Not a test just a genuine question....

490 Miles out of a tank, thats good is that. 35MPG average.
Is this mainly motorway or a mixture of all.

I got arround 29-20 MPG on the tank with my S4 3.0 TFSI.
Not as much as stated in the specs :(

I get from 480 to 550 (550 was driving like an old man...) in my Bluefinned 2.7

My best was 648 from a tank. 60.5 litres - anyone know how big the tank is BTW?
DIS1 was showing 61.3mpg when I got back from Swansea last night :-)
Sorry I can't answer the OP's question, but it must be one complicated algorithm... Or a random number generator. One of the two.

That is mixed driving between home and work. Journey is 48 miles and typically covered at an average speed of between 54 mph and 60 mph. If I am driving more for economy (or in traffic) then I get around 41 mpg. If I really try I can get 43 mpg and if I am in a hurry I get nearer 36 mpg. I will update my fuel consumption graph and try and post it. (these figures from the DIS)

Believe it or not, I have thought about this too! The conclusion that I came to was that the computer calculates the remaining miles in the tank based on the average MPG for, say the last 10 miles (or 10 minutes, or a short period). Therefore, lets say you were on the motorway and pulled off to fill up in a nearby town - the 5-10 miles that you may drive at a reduced MPG (urban) will then be used to calculate the miles left once you fill up. Then once you get back on the motorway and complete your journey, your MPG goes up again and the computer adjusts the total miles left in the tank.

Just my thoughts on how it works....

Non-Quattro tank is 65 litres
Quattro tank is 64 litres

At least that's what the pixies told me.

Yes it is 64l on quattro.

I get 480km with 60 litres - not as close as you are getting

The DIS is rubbish and is quite optimistic on MPG! Using spiritmonitor shows how bad it is!

Best I have done is 410 miles to a tank, but more normal is just under 300.

Have you tweaked your car with VAG-COM yet?

Once I've got a good basis I'm going to adjust it to make it more realistic.

I think my DIS is about 7% optimistic - you mean that with VAG-COM, you could reduce that??

Oh yes. It does more than just turn LEDs on and off :D

e.g.

Consumption in DIS:
STG 17 - Instruments
STG Adaptation -> Channel 3
change 100 to xxx (see samples below)

Sample 1:
DIS: 9,3 l/100 km.
Real: 9,8 l/100 km. (100/9,3*9,8 = 105,38)
Channel 3 will be changed from 100 to 105

Sample 2 :
DIS: 7,8 l/100 km.
Real: 6,9 l/100 km. (100/7,8*6,9 = 88,46)

;)

Thanks. Impressive - I wish that cable was a bit cheaper...
Though I bet you can waste hours fiddling. I think I would.

It's way too easy to say "I'm just popping to the garage. I'll be back in 10 mins" and then realise 1.5hours has gone by :o

This is the way most cars work it out so I don't see why Audi would do anything different.

No haven't bothered. Only done a few tanks on Spiritmoniter and will probably leave as so when I sell it, it will look better than it is :biglaugh:

Alternatively tweak it to be realistic and then when you're thinking of selling tweak it heavily the other way.

You could then sell it as a 50mpg 2.0T :D

p.s. Before I get flamed I'm joking!! :p

Any hints or tips on Spirit Monitor, just had a look for the first time :D
