Anyone got any idea what this mystery tube is? I spotted it whilst replacing a servo... Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure that should be connected to the hole on the side of the battery...

For what reason, what does it do?

ITS to vent the gas away from the battery.

ITS to vent the gas away from the battery.

Hydrogen to be precise - highly explosive and not to be messed with...

In my youth, had a motorcycle where this breather tube had come off whilst the battery was on charge.

When I removed the croc clips, it sparked and the battery literally exploded in my face. I was lucky not to be blinded.

I rekon this battery has been replaced in it's past life, i don't think there's anywhere to put my tube. Any advice?

I can't tell from the picture, but there are some gel type car batteries around now that are completely sealed from the atmosphere - it might be one of those.

If not there should be a small spigot somewhere around the inderside of the top lip of the battery - check that it hasn't been broken off.

Cheers

Usually, there is a small hole in the end of the battery for the pipe to push into. In the picture, you can see the very end filler screw, next to that on the end of the battery there is a small raised section, it is usually there.

I'll take another look in the morning, I have no wish to blow up when this old rattler needs jump started!

Thanks for the advice!

I replaced my battery today with one that is maintenance free. (What a game!!!):zx11::aargh4:

I put the vent pipe in the dummy hole that is on the side of the new battery.

Will this be okay?
