nearside Indicator remains on

Passat 1.9 td 2002, When I lock/unlock the car the nearside indicator stays on. This has been intermittent in the past. I disconnected the battery and left for a while and seem to work?. But now it is more regular. Second press of the keyfob unlock button should get the indicators to flash twice but this now does not happen. I have checked the pollen filter/CCM in the passenger footwell. However have not not really opened up the wiring. It mainly seem to happen when the car has been parked in the sun whether that is of any relevance.

As it costs nothing to examine the ccm wiring I would do that. Unwrap it and look for all the soldered joints. Sometimes the wires are corroded inside the plastic sleeving. A code read might help.
