Hello,
would this be an Audi only meet or could us VW boys join?
There have been some grumblings on the 'Scottish members declare yourself' (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=419088#post419088) thread about organising a meet.

Waddaya reckon?

Does it need to be official? Do we need to notify the council/police? There are laws about crowds gathering in a public place.
We're hardly Corsa dudes but the last thing we want is to be moved along.:p

absolutley not. as long as we are not doing wheelspins and drawing attention to ourselfs. its not like we are protesters or anything:aargh4::aargh4::aargh4::aargh4: been to a few meets before and enjoyed getting a good natter. but we still need a lot more peeps to show an interest. :banghead:

Well allright then.
Can we get a mod to rename this thread "Glasgow VAG Meet".
And lets start drumming up interest.
Nothing too big.
If we get 20 names, then we can name a date eh?

Okay then, I'll kick off.
So we fancy meeting up somewhere for an infomal meeting to get to know one another, make use of each others skillsets and advice and of course view the machines themselves.
Anyone with a VAGCOM will be very welcome I suppose.:D
Once we have at least 10 names we can start discussing dates but for now, put your name if you are interested and suggest a venue.

1. eob - Pollock park, Glasgow.

Hey guys, I'd certainly be up for it if life allows. I have kids that play pro youth football as well as other interests so I won't always be able to make it, but if I can I'll certainly be there.

Used to have a few meets with the Scottish Mondeo forum a few years back. We used to meet in Strathclyde Park ( a really good central location ) unless of course any of the guys from up north decided to come down in which case maybe Stirling or even Perth would be better?

I work shifts and dont get every weekend off so the more notice the better Sundays are good easier to get time off.
Also the wife is a day over due with our first so it could be me and a wee passenger, toward the end of the month may be best ( still could be the youngest member to turn up at the meet) :biglaugh:

Watch out with the 12v to 240v invertors Andy as some have been known to fry the VAG COM module just ask crasher it cost him £???s:zx11: before he sussed what was doing the damage. It is on the Ross Tech site but not something you would see unless you do a bit of digging. Will miss this meet unfortunately due to work cycle.

Ah!, Thanks for the warning, perhaps will give that idea a miss and just use it till the laptop battery shows low!!

Thats a bit of a bummer.
I'll see if I can get my hands on a generator.

dvdfrost

I have a genny i could bring,
small inverters are often square wave which is dodgy on sensitive equipment.
if anyone has a sine wave inverter(it will proclaim it on the top) that would be fine and same as house electric.
another possibility is a Uninterruptable Power Supply or UPS it would smooth any ac power and make it safe .

what kind of laptop is it ?perhaps others would have batteries?:1zhelp:

smithysmudger
20-10-2009, 06:35 PM
It’s actually due to the different earth potentials which causes the problem I have put link to the original post for clarification. The invertor should be fine for charging the laptop but to attach the Vag lead while charging and connected to the same car is a risk I’m not willing to take.

21-10-2009, 04:30 PM
Yep definately a good call Smithysmudger, looks like it blows the cable drawing the earth, not any damage to the car, but more importantly my cable!!:) however i don't have an invertor nor will be buying one for the future!! I will bring the laptop to the meet, its a Acer Aspire 5315, I would suggest if there is anyone coming who has a need to have VAG COM plugged in, let me know we can see what the response is before deciding how much use it will get, only thing is I only get around 1/2 hour from the laptop battery:(. If there are more than a few requests then we can look at DVDfrost's offer of a genny, (Is it a neat, quite running one, or a 10KV monster!!?)

I'm still going to show up, it's only 15 mins from where I am. The weather (if it was anything like this weekend) might put some people off.
Even if there is only one or two, it'll still be good to say hello over a bacon buttie and a hot sweet tea. :biglaugh:

Hi Guys, doing some refurb work at my gym just now, so not sure if i can make it on Sunday. I won't really know until the Sunday morning, so i will check the thread and if it's on i will turn up if possible.

The other thing is that with the M80 roadworks, it won't be a quick 30 mins drive. I'm not sure if i will have enough time even just to pop along to say hi. If not enjoy yourselves and maybe next time.

If you are arranging some meets, why not pick a route and go for a spin at the same time. Just a thought for future.

Cheers
Kenny.

Hmmm
I'm puting the sensible hat one here, its to be p*****g down on Sunday, and there are only 4 of us, I think it may literally be a wash-out!
I'll go, but is it worth looking at another date instead to try and get more numbers? Let's face it, the weather couldn't be as bad and the chances are, there will be more people. Its a long way for Andy and crashcarter to come as well.
Sorry for going on a bit, I just thing it may be better to move the date

Its not the fact there is only 4 but more what do we do sitting in the pouring rain? The weather although today is lovely here in Ayrshire is to be very heavy rain tomorrow,

I would suggest arranging a new Date and cancel tomorrow, whats the feeling from the 4?

Ha Ha, :biglaugh: I like your plans for tomorrow, looks like the bad weather wouldn't have been a dampner after all!!....well in one way or another.

oh well, see if you can keep the beers cool and the women warm for the next time,

oh, and whats this talk of "claying the car" and "cars looking imaculate" I washed mine once... well it was more a hosing!!:p I wish I could polish and prep the car but never had the patience, it will now have to wait for that wash now, until May, if thats the next planned Scottish Meet!!

now there's an idea, perhaps that could be the next theme, bring my car dirty and one of you could show me how to clean it!!, I like that idea ;)
