My Car is 1999 V Reg Polo 1.9TDi Estate.
I started with the ABS light coming on intermittently and randomly. Took it to my local garage who tested the sensors and found the right front was faulty. It was replaced it but this did not help. They the ran more tests and said the left front was faulty. They replaced this as well but it still did'nt work. Back a third time ,further testing showed the right faulty again and they replaced it again. Still no joy. I consulted your forums and a number of postings suggested fuses might be to blame. On my car the only ABS fuses I can locate are above the relays in the fuse compartment under the steering wheel. I changed both of these fuses(30 AMPS) and after a 5 mile drive thought I'd cracked it - no light! Did some shopping, and from the time I turned on the ignition to the time I got home, the ABS light stayed on.

Can anyone advise where to go from here???

It's impossible to guess without a code read. I would clean and refit the fuses and holders. I would also consider changing the brake light switch as this can upset the abs module. A code read will tell you which part of the system is reporting a fault.

Either go to a dealer or any garage is likely to be able to read codes. You could ask on vag-com section to see if anyone living near you can do it.

I've now got code reads: 00283 Front Left and 00285 Front Right.
Thanks
