I am attempting to change the rear pads on a 2004 Leon, I have removed the caliper and the old pads, but can't get the piston to compress back into the caliper, to fit new pads. It has been suggested this is to do with the ABS system stopping fluid travelling back and the car needs linking to a laptop to control the engine manement system:zx11: . Obviously I do not have this equipment does anyone have any other suggestions/ideas?

Thanks:1zhelp:

It is true.

You need to use a wind back tool. Halfords sell them for about £20.

I know this is a while ago but were there any issues with the hand brake cable? Did you have to release them or reset them for use with new pads?

I ask because I am thinking about replacing pads and discs on my 03 Leon TDi.

Just pop off the handbrake, making sure something is chocking the wheels and you'll be fine.

It bites a bit better on having new pads, but thats all good.

Don't forget you will definately require a caliper wind back tool. As advised above, they are available from Halfords for about £20.

Cheers

Thanks - I have one of those in my grubby mits now, as you say from Halfords: £19.99 And I also have 4 discs and 8 pads awaiting my attention. Just hope it doesn't take me all day or my fingers 'll drop off with the cold!
