Overheating

I was driving along last night when I noticed that it was overheating .All levels ok.Stopped for a while and undid water tank and water and steam came out,then after that it was ok.I have had an oil leak for several days and the mechanic cannot find the leak and advised me to steam clean the engine which I did ,could I have dislodged something to result in the overheating.

The only thing I can think that you might have disloged is a connector to one of the rad fans. It could be a coincidence about the steam cleaning, also check your thermostat and waterpump. The waterpump has a plastic impellar and these often become loose or break up.
