Needing oil advice as wife just phoned to say oil min light has come on and of course I'm at work and she has various places to go today. Assume ok to do 40-50 miles, plus phoned local (only) car parts place and only oil they have is Comma Longlife 0/30 which is 506.0, 506.1 & 503 according to the shop.

Is this oil ok to top up with or should I hunt round the petrol stations, no VAG dealer within 100 miles. Sorry don't have time to search forum(s) in case boss catches me :-)

Single grade 30 will be fine in a lawnmower engine................
How many different engines are fitted to an A4 ???
Give us a clue.

You could try asking Simon at Opieoils for advise, they offer a discount to members on oil, and do mail order.

See here;- http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum//showthread.php?t=1230

They can offer excellent advise;)

Ok, then you need a 504 with 501.01/502 as older specs.
A fully synthetic, probably 5W40, to that VW spec would be best.
If the oil is critically low then top it up with anything in the short term.
In this instance having enough oil is more important than the spec of the top-up.

Thanks for the help got my wife to take to local garage for a top up although had to do it myself later as they couldn't open the bonnet  , is due service soon and 14,000 since last one so hopefully Highland Audi will put in the right stuff.
