View Full Version : S-line front bumper wanted!!

wmaiden

Hi guys,

Newbie here! I've just purchased a 51 plate 1.8 t sport (163) saloon in silver. The car is tidy enough already has the s-line style door fins, rear spoiler etc. The lower sections of both bumpers have been colour coded but I feel the front would benefit massively from a s-line/ s4 style bumper.

Anyone on here got one they're looking to sell or any suggestions on where to obtain one?

Cheers,

Will.

you can buy the lower sport bumper spoiler from audi as well as the grills.

Thanks for the response!

Don't suppose you know the relevant part numbers? Any idea on price?

Thanks again!

Interesting...

I see the S-line lower bumper section claims to fit onto a standard upper bumper. How would that work? Anyone know?

a8 tech
09-09-2009, 09:52 PM
The lower section unclips/unbolts.Slight adjustment but additional cost for the 3 grills

SebRogers
09-09-2009, 09:58 PM
Thanks :)

When you say adjustment, is that the kind of adjustment that involves hacking bits off with a saw / knife / angle grinder...? And would the s-line lower part effectively clip / bolt on without resorting to extra drilling / zip ties / whatever?

Just trying to get a feel for how big a job it is...

No drastic mods and push fit plus original fastners.Simply remove the bumper and split it

You make it sound easy ;)

Best start saving for a new bumper (and full colour coding), then... :beerchug:

Actually don't worry, just found it! Is that not for a b7 though?

SebRogers
10-09-2009, 09:07 PM
Yup, that's a B7. Plenty of those around. B6 looks a bit thinner on the ground (A8tech's earlier link looks like a good source of brand new OEM bumpers though, at a price. Although by the time you've bought the bumper, painted it and colour coded the rest the extra £100 for the new part over a used one is beginning to look like small beer...)

wmaiden
10-09-2009, 09:18 PM
Thanks for all the ino guys!

That link from A8tech does look the best option right now, they even do a full genuine kit on their fleabay shop with grills and all incl.

The only trouble is I have contacted the seller to enquire re shipment to the uk and am getting no response?!

SebRogers
10-09-2009, 09:34 PM
There's a link on the ebay page that allows you to calculate shipping rates to the UK (comes in at 24 Euros via DHL). Reckon if you buy it now and select 'grossbritannien' from the drop-down shipping menu it'll all be fine and dandy.

Don't forget the seller may not speak English :) How's your German? :biglaugh:

wmaiden
10-09-2009, 09:39 PM
haha I did think the hold up was because of the language barrier so used google language tools to translate it...........knowing my luck I unwittingly sent him an abusive msg...oops

I shall have another look at these shipping rates you speak of, my car NEEDS that bumper.... haha

a8 tech
10-09-2009, 09:52 PM
Don't use the caps lock, this is offensive to germans lol

wmaiden
10-09-2009, 10:01 PM
I'll bear that in MIND lol..

Ok so here's my dilemma........ do I pay £100 for just the lower bumper, £200 for the bumper with all lower grills or nearly £300 for all the lower stuf and the top grill too?

If I just get the basic lower bumper is it likely I could pick the grills etc up cheaper here in blighty or would I just be prolonging the agony??

a8 tech
10-09-2009, 10:04 PM
I'm going for the lower bumper only then playing the waiting game for a uk supplier.I missed the outer grills last week as a set went for £25 on ebay. The middle grill is the most expensive.

Sounds like a plan!

Here's to a long drawn out bidding war over every grill set that becomes available on ebay from this day forward, may the best man win.... lol:beerchug:

Bugger, scrap the above... the lower bumper only doesn't have the UK as a shipping option, lower bumper with grills it's going to have to be....now to break the news to the mrs lol

I did find this today
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110432125619&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Obviously there is a potential saving to be had - provided bids don't get too high of course but when you add into that all the postage etc then perhaps the dealer is the way forward.
Perhaps I was over complicating things by making assumptions that the dealers would be more expensive than everybody else! Silly me....

So here's a question: in terms of looks, would a switch to the s-line front spoiler and lower grills (with appropriate colour coding on the rest of the car) work... or would it just look wrong without all the other s-line bits (door trims, rear bumper valence)?

Opinions?

Obviously it looks better with all the bits but I've seen a few examples with just the front bumper and it is still a massive improvement on standard and doesn't look out of place, the way I look at it is the door trims and rear bumper insert don't actually make the car look any lower so as long as the rest is colour coded it looks fine :approve:

Er, I'll pass on the part numbers, thanks :) Especially since my new toy (T25 Westy with a lurrvely 2.1 Wasserboxer up back) is probably going to require some TLC on the bodywork front. Can't afford to sort out rusty seams AND tart up the A4 :D

Just use the part numbers quoted by a8tech on page 3 of this thread, I called Audi in Tetbury and they knew exactly what I was on about. One thing to note is the side grills are either:

8E0 807 681 C01C for the near side
8E0 807 682 C01C for the off side

or

8E0 807 681 D01C for the near side
8E0 807 682 D01C for the off side

depending on engine size and transmission (think one lets more air in than the other)

when i askd audi how much to provide the s-line spoiler £177.00p plus vat) then to paint and fit the spoiler ( £207.00p +vat ) which at over £400 i thought was a bit much.

when i was given the price for the s-line kit, i did'nt even bother about asking price to paint and fit . turn's out the send the car to the local volkswagon garage for painting ect as audi havent got a body shop only garage.

So to date
S line rear defuser fitted
S line sills fitted, second hand already painted so it was cheaper to buy them and have them painted
S line front lower grill awaiting paint
Now the door blades are to be painted instead of laying out £70 a door.
Still need the centre grill unless I drop on the S4 centre and bonnet Grill's7286

7287

7288

So its cost me
£40 for the rear defuser, already painted with no scratches
£80 for the sills, already painted with no scratches
£50 for the front spoiler, requires painting
£20 for the outer grills
£75 to paint the spoiler and the original door blades
I have spent lots of time on Ebay to find the parts :aargh4:
Not forgetting the Eibach lowering kit £189 (AWESOME GTI) and the Sline 3 spoke steering wheel for £50

If anyones interested, I sold my A4 but before it went I put the old bumper back on it

That means I have the sport bumper up for grabs.

It will need to be resprayed (it was my first attemp at spraying with water based paint, fail)

The passenger side grill was nicked (theifing scum) so is not included.

a8 & benjie... thanks guys, I just couldn't understand why Audi had the valance so much cheaper than eBay sellers peddling the same genuine valance... It's crazy money.

One good thing the guy on eBay does do is the aftermarket S4 blades.. they are £210 and apparently impressive quality & fitment (They have featured on a few of the forums state-side).

http://i.ebayimg.com/20/!CFvHgmQEGk~$(KGrHqV,!l0E1GEfE)+EBNWCf2U0fw~~_35.J PG

But I guess if geniune S-lines are available for £280 then it kinda makes you wonder if its just worth paying th extra.

a8 do you have any photos of your painted flat door blades on the forum / on photos you could post.. I'd like to see what they look like painted body colour..

Does anybody have any basic instructions of what needs to be done please.. or any handy hints? Is it essentially cutting-off all the plastic tags that would normally slot into the genuine S-Line upper bumper?

Thanks in advance.
Al.

I'm getting quite excited as nearly all my parts have arrived for the S-Line transformation.

This is the rear apron I've gone for (with dual down-turned chrome tail pipes from a B7 A4 TDI)

Does anybody happen to know the paint code to do the dark inset area pictured above?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

My Avant went into the bodyshop today to have the 2004 lower S-Line front valance fitted (for those that don't know, S-Line was introduced on the B6 in 2004 onwards models).
I got a call shortly afterwards from the workshop manager expressing his concerns about how weak the (OEM) S-Line valance will be when attached.

He said that due to the modifications (tirmming) needed to get the lower S-Line valance to fit the 2003 upper bumper, it wouln't result in a very secure attachement (i.e. it wouldn't take much for it to come loose if it took a knock etc). He went on to say that it'll be so "flappy" that it might even be an issue on the motorway as there is so little support behind it!

My car is a 2003 53 plate - has anybody else had similar concerns about retro-fitting the S-Line valance? I have plumped to buy the upper bumper for a 2004 model car so the lower valance can be fitted without modification.

I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts on this.

PS: A while back I got all my lower plastics colour coded along with S4 door blades. I also had a rear S-Line apron fitted with some lovely OEM chrome-tipped tail pipes. Think A6 TDI twin tailpipes and you'll have the right idea - I will post photos shortly.

I left my car with the bodyshop for a month (I was getting it done at an extreemly good rate becuase my friend part-owns the bodyshop). Unbelievably, becase they'd kept the car so long; the workshop forgot that I'd bought an S-Line front bumper (which was sat on their shelves gathering dust).

Despite the rest of the car looking awesome; they had painted the old front bumper and had put it back on the car!! GRRR.. hence it's just gone back in!

You could be right a8... they may just be using the funds (that I've given them to purchase the upper bumper) to actually purchase a new lower S-Line valance cos they've screwed up the first one!! We shall soon see as I've asked them to keep all parts.

Can I just check.. are there no extra supporting brackets etc that go behind the S-Line valance (as opposed to the standard valance) with it being a few inches deeper etc?

Cheers

Its hard to explain but this link will show you the amount to cut off and what's left to support the spoiler http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext72.shtml

As we fit oem then ignore the chicken wire bit lol

When fitting the Fog light grills you will need to make a fixing to allow them to sit flush and secure

I just fastened them discreetly with black screws fastened into the bumper

The centre grill needs a little help also, on the upper inner I used flush fitting door trim fasteners to hold it in place which cant be see as the lower section of my front number plate covers them and adds extra support.

You have to modify things in order for a flush fit as the sports/sline main bumper differs from the standard

You could have asked me to do it as I do still do private work you know

I cut the bumpers very carefully and offer the spoiler up to make the best fit possible

Thanks for that link a8 - much apprecaited.

I've already shelled-out for the 2004 upper bumper - I just hope it fits on my 2003 without any issues! I presume having the upper bumper will make for plain-sailing as far as getting everthing flush goes?

If they feed me any more crap, I will tell them to down-tools and give me all the parts back. You're work is second to none a8 but you're a busy busy man! LOL

I'll keep you posted...

Hi,

Mine has standard lights (not Xenon's) and I don't have the winter pack, so there are no headlamp washer holes in mine. Would it be helpful if asked the bodyshop for the paperwork to get the part code?

According to the bodyshop it went on without a problem.

I much prefer the down-turned TDI pipes (OEM) becuase the straight-through look a bit daft on a TDI of this age (no DPF) belching out sooty smoke!

Obviously the roof bars aren't part of the make-over (although she does look pretty cool with her Thule roof box on!)

Tell me what ya think! ;)
