Is the VAG5053 any good?
I'm looking for a "cheap" code reader so I don't have to go the a garage to get a code read every time something goes wrong. I would like to be able to read the code in the first instance and then take it to a garage depending on the fault.
I'm looking for a reader that will work with my 52 plate passat tdi and my 54 plate golf tdi and was wondering if the VAG5053 would do the trick. I'm not looking for an all singing and dancing reader, just one that does the job and ideally doesn't need to be connected to a PC/laptop, except for updates.
I found the VAG5053 on ebay for around £65 new. Is that a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance for any advice or alternative suggestions.
