1996 A6 Start then shut off??

I need a little help I am living in Germany and I have a 1996 A6 that when I start it, it will start right up then die out. it doesn’t happen all the time and some time's it only takes one try to start others times it takes 50 times before it stays on. I am good w/cars but never had something like this before any help?

Sounds like an immobiliser problem.

I think that age car has a seperate immo box rather than being part of the instrument cluster.

Best bet is to get VAG-COM and scan for fault codes.

hi there its the key code reader a black ring around the ignition.. had same problem.. take it off and clean it for a temp fix..

What about fuel pump? Maybe its faulty.
