I've got the key and the remote.... both blank and ready to be cut/coded to my immo and alarm....

i've had 2 quotes so far, VW main dealer says if im nice to them and i bend over first, they might do it for half an hours labour, after assesing the car and key for 'suitability'

the other is an independant key cutter/immo specialist, who says £50 to cut and code....

anyone know of any decent and reasonable cutters/coders around my area? :p:confused:

I bought a fob and blank key on fleabay recently and wandered down to my ultra-reliable autosparky who has coded loads of keys for me in the past. He has spent over £16k in equipment to be able to do all of this. However, he told me that VW have now been able to have non-franchised garages banned from coding keys and refused to do it in fear of being hammered with a hefty fine off VUK.

I got my blade cut and presented it to my local ******* (who I must admit were very helpful) and they tried to code it. However, the key/transponder bit supplied off fleabay was either wrong or faulty. When you buy the bit, you note the part number based on the remote fob, not the key. Apparently, the seller had supplied a transponder suitable for static code, not rolling code on my newer Passat.

If you buy away from a *******, make sure that the parts are correct. My new key ended up costing me £105 (£44 to code and £61 to buy). The remote part, however was the right bit off fleabay and worked fine and can be coded yourself from the instructions in the manual.

Unfortunately, it seems like the big boys are, yet again, crushing smaller enterprises. My advise is to bite the bullet and go to your *******, if only to be assured that once they have coded the thing it will work and will be guaranteed. If you buy a dodgy/incompatible key then it may lock up you car's immobilizer completely leaving your car stranded.

Also, the VW dealer has easy access to all of the codes which don't always get passed on from owner to owner etc.

I have considered the fleabay key/transponders, but I have heard several stories about thier reliability. The last thing you need is the the transponser to fail when you're a long way from home...

Can anyone recommend a key cutting place in London/Herts/Bucks/Middlesex that would be able to cut and program a blank Audi TT key?

I've lost the second key and need to get a replacement, but don't really want to spend £200 at an Audi *******!

Many thanks.

LMAO, for £55 you could have had a tacho off me and done it yourself ;)

I can program keys for nowt using my laptop. As long as I have the 4 digit code to access my ECU (which I do funnily enough :D) I can tell it to program any number of keys, then you just remove the key already in the ignition - stick it in and turn it on for 2 seconds, then stick the 2nd one in and repeat (and repeat for all keys wanting to be coded) - I'll be doing this with my spare key once I get it cut. :)

I was actually considering buying a VAG Tacho from you Carl but I'm unsure of whether it will work on my car (2001 Bora TDi PD AJM). Initially I just want to code my key/fob that I bought of eBay 2 months ago. I don't even have my SKC.

My priority at this moment is to buy the full version of VAG COM with HEX CAN USB and only then either buy VAG Tacho or pop down and see you (if that's ok with you... i live in Bury) and get my key coded.

What does the VAG Commander do? I'm assuming its the same as Tacho but exlusively for newer cars (post 2004)??

This is an interesting thread indeed, when i bought my Golf (2nd Hand) the guy had lost the remote keyfob thing and only had just a normal VW key to open the car etc, so thats all i have.

Was wondering how much it would cost me to get a remote keyfob key thingy-ma-jig, i know the ******** want a ton of bucks to do it, and seen a few threads on various forums on how to do it, is it worth just buying the blank keyfob, having it cut to the same as my key and then taking that to the ******** and paying them the cash to program the thing?

incidentally a mate of mine has a VAGCOM, can he use that to program the keyfob if i get it cut?

the Tacho will work with your golf ;) mine's a 2000 plate, engine codes dont matter, but it will work on yours mate.

if you want to pop down to me, thats fine, but i charge £30 for each coding session.

as for the vag commander, its the same thing, but for 2004/5 cars on.... its so expensive due to it being such new technology.:beerchug:

one thing i do know... if you buy a fob off ebay, 99.9% of dealers will no longer code them for you.

you can use vagcom to code keys, once you know the pin for acessing the immobiliser.... thats what my vagtacho does ;)

So if i buy a key, have it cut, and then pay a nice person not unlike yourself a visit with it and some cash in my hand, they can reprogram the key for me? :)

in a word, yes. assuming the key you get doesnt have a fixed code transponder, you need what i believe they call a rolling code transponder, a brand new key and fob is the best way.

Carl, is that VAG Commander backwards compatible (pre 2004)? I was thinking maybe I could pay that bit more, code my Bora and use it to make a bit of money on the side by coding keys for other people (new and old cars).

Another scenario (if you could confirm for me please), using VAG COM 704.1, I could code keys for pretty much all vag cars as long as they knew their code. Is that correct?

How do I know the key I bought has got rolling code transponder?
The part number is HLO 1JO 959 753 AG (434 Mhz) if thats any help.

Thank

Waheed

that much... i dont know, ill check, but i wouldnt imagine so, as the cars from 2004 onwards use the canbus, instead of KWP2000 (i think) protocol. ill check when i have some more stock in for you though just in case.

what you choose to do with it is your own decision, but i cant offer any support and i must warn you that if you intend to offer it as a service, you should be registered as a business, as i am ;)

as for the fob.... that bit im unsure of , i dont think it matters what part number the key is and im unsure how to tell if it is a rolling code or static... i will look into this for you ;)

Hi Eshrule,

Would you be able to program a brand new transponder key for Passat B6/Mk7?

Hi
Have just bought a 'blank key' from eBay on the basis that i can programme it as per programyourkeys site.
Before I read this site/thread :(

http://www.programyourkeys.com/Program_Keys_-_VW_Audi_Seat_Skoda.html

Now not sure whether I can?

Driving a 2006 Caddy SDI

Any help/advice apreciated

That procedure is only for coding the remote for the central locking, you will need to also have it coded to your immobiliser otherwise it won't start the van.

I can do that for you, if you're passing Mansfield or fancy a trip down.

Eshrules (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/member.php?u=3014), (or anyone),

I've recently bought a Fleabay VAG-Tacho lead and it only partially works.

What I need is to program the Transponder of my Spare key, but the option to get the PIN number is greyed-out on the screen...

Have I bought the wrong VAG-Tacho lead, and if so, where can I get a lead that will work with my Allroad 2002 TDI?

I also have a VAG-COM which appears to (mostly) work, though it's no use as far as I can see, for programming Transponders...

I'm driving with no spare key at the moment, so I'm pushing my luck!

Step one to solving your problem :

buy an legitimate vagtacho and vagcom lead(s)

when you've done this, I'll be able to help :)

Just got myself a lovely A6 Allroad C5 (2004/5). I have only one key fob with it and desperately want a spare so I don't panic when I go anywhere! Can anyone help?
I have done it before on my wife's transit van by buying one off fleabay and sending my original away with it to a locksmith who programmed the glass transponder for me. I am told this is not possible with the Audis. Can anyone help? I am in West Cornwall

Hmmm I'm not sure if that's strictly true. When I was up north I had my rs3 programmed by a manchester locksmith (http://manchesterslocksmiths.co.uk) and they did a fab job. Has the same locksmith for your wife's transit van said no? I suppose you're a bit out in the sticks in West Cornwall! I've only moved south in the last few years, so maybe that's rude of me ;)

Ha ha, not rude at all. I like sticks me. :D
I have booked for someone to come out and program a new key on the drive for £100. Pricey for me, but cheap compared to daylight robbery prices of main dealers!
