The engine will lose power and stop witin minutes,
after an hours constant motorway driving.Letting it sit
for 5-10 minutes it will run again. It runs fine on short/local
journeys.Could it be fuel pump or air problem.Any ideas
would be appreciated.first post.

Hi mate, could be pump, if's in tank on yours then it may have failed and when fuel level drops in tank cant pull enough fuel up from main pump..

Hiya mate, I had similar probs with a bmw diesel, and when fuel level dropped to about a third of a tank it would stop, the main pump on engine was doing all work but when fuel reaches a certain level then it cannot pull the fuel up to pump. It may be the same on yours, just need pump out and checking to see if it is still working.
Also check all fuel pipes and fuel return lines on injectors for any wet patches which will mean a leak.. hope you sort it mate.

Replace relay 109 or the one that supplies power to the ECU. They known to break internally and will arch when hot thus turning the engine off. It wont trigger no fault codes. When cold(a matter of minutes!) it will start again untill the same happens !
