Lengthwise accelerator Sensor Problem on my Quattro Sport

Hi ive only posted once on here before , so here goes.

I have a 2000 Audi A3 Quattro Sport and recently the ABS light has came on the dash , i ran a diagnostic check and this is what it came back as.

Code 1279
Sensor for lengthwise accelerator, electrical fault in electrical circuit.

Im hoping that someone in the know can explain this to me what needs replacing or repairing and where i can find this sensor on the car.

Any help much appreciated and thanks for a great Website.

it needs a new sensor it is fitted to the side of the steering column

Does all the cowling have to come off the steering column.

dash undertray its bolted about inline with dash pod in a downwards direction about a third of the way down column

Had the trim off today but couldnt locate the sensor , not mechanically minded lol.

There isnt any photos about showing the sensor that you know of is there.

just double checked and the one that needs replacing is behind glove box sorry
remove glove box and its clipped to the dash side member
