Hi
We have just bought a new Touareg Altitude which is great. However, we live on a country lane and with wet weather and farm activity the cills get completely covered in mud which then transfers itself to coats, skirts and trousers when we get out; not good for social events. VW now tell us that no mud flaps are available for this model. I can't believe it! 4 wheel drive designed to cope with slippery muddy conditions and no mud flaps! It may not look 'cool' but I am talking practical reasons.
Does anyone know of a manufacturer/ supplier who can provide mud flaps for this model?
Desperate to keep down the dry cleaning bills.:aargh4:

would it not be possible to adapt a set of universal flaps? unless you're after the specifically moulded kind?

I did a google search which showed the following results,

In the UK

In the US (they call them 'splash guards').

(From a VW dealer).

Hi
Thank you all for your prompt response.
As you have noticed I did first try MyTreg thinking the answer would most likely be there but so far have drawn a blank, with several other members needing the same mud flaps.
I may have to resort to modifying standard sheet mud flaps but I am not sure where to go for those. Halfords perhaps?
I have also got an enquiry out with Parts Gateway but no replies yet.
Tregcentral (now called Carmata) in the US who say that they do not know what the Altitude model is.
I have emailed ReydelVW@Yahoo.com And wait to see what they say.

I have however talked to a British manufacturer this morning who say that they can manufacture a moulded set of Mud Flaps specifically for the Altitude if they felt that there would be sufficient market demand for them.
I know that I need them; anyone else?

Should a 4x4 not look muddy?

Each to their own though.

I am not in the least bothered about my car 'looking muddy'. my problem is that we bought the car, for several reasons, but mainly because my wife is troubled with Arthritis and the Touareg is an easy car to get in and out of. Plus the fact that we do live on a country road which apart from often being muddy, slippery and gets blocked with snow, occasionally floods. Great car for our purpose but when we come to get out of it particular care has to be taken not to catch your clothes on the mud, and my wife is not quite so agile as most.
So a simple set of Mud Flaps would cure the problem.

I see your point.

At least your 4x4 has a genuine use. I'm sorry but it frustrates me when I see people who own 4x4s and they've never seen a muddy road/field in their life.

Well that's the case and in addition to what I have explained we frequently travel up to North Wales to a property that has a steep grassy track to climb. Our previous car(s) were a Passat Estate for our comfort ride and a Discovery for the mucky stuff. The Touareg is the best of both worlds for us. Shame about the muddy cills though.

How about some universal mudflaps from a motorsport supplier ie for rallying or motorgross etc. yes ok abit of a mad idea but if you have large flaps they will work better than titchy ines that only stop a little mud.

I use plastic door mats that have a brushed finish on one side for the plant machines i look after in a quarry. these are effective but maybe a bit too much for a toe rag.....

I, too, would like to get hold of some mudflaps for my Altitude model. Almost all the roads near my home are fairly narrow and frequented by tractors. After any wet weather (ie, most of the time, it seems) I end up with mud, and worse, flicked up the doors and even on the door handles. The lack of mudflap availability is my only grouse. In all other respects the car is great (2.5, Tiptronic).

Hi Rick
I agree entirely. Wonderful car shame about the mud.
I have heard from someone in the know in the US that they are expecting mud flaps for the Altitude to be available over there this winter. I have written to VW UK After Sales Customer Care office to ask the question. I will let you know if I get a favourable reply. :notworthy

Hi
I have received this email from VW UK Head Office regarding Mud Flaps for the Altitude.

Thank you for your letter dated the 7 September regarding your request for mud flaps for your Touareg Altitude. I understand the inconvenience that you experience and apologise that you are unhappy with the fact that there are no mud flaps for your model of vehicle to alleviate the issue.
Volkswagen do not manufacture mud flaps for the Altitude model is designed as a road vehicle with off road capabilities and the body kit that is used is to offer a sportier appearance. The mud flaps cannot be fitted to the vehicle because of the Altitude's body kit. There are currently no mud flaps available, nor have we been advised of any being produced or planned for production.

Yes I eventually found a company called rallyflapZ who are based in Bolton.
At the time they had a friend who owned a Touareg Altitude so they measured it up and produced a fine set of front wheel flaps. I now realise why VW do not supply mud flaps for this model as the fitting was a bit complex but anyone with a bit of engineering knowledge can do it. I had to make a clip to secure the outside of the flap to the lip of the wing and a small bracket to secure the inside. They look great and certainly stop the mud flying up the cill and door. The rear wheel arches have no suitable fixing points so I have not done those.
There web address is www.performancecreations.co.uk .
Good luck
