bit of a rant this one.

I work damn hard to earn my money and get the things I like. Now I have a car I really wanted and I have the NCB etc to make it genuinley affordable.

Now you spotty oik in yer little french piece of crap, I drive at 30mph because that's the limit. I accelerate smoothly to 60mph because I'm civilised and that is the limit. No matter how much you rush up to my back bumper from every roundabout or junction or any time you have to stop etc I will not be bullied into speeding, nor will I enter into a 'race' with you. And girls are worse...

No.1 - it's illegal.

No.2 - it's would be so easy to kick your pluckey *** it's worse than boring.

No.3 - I enjoy 'driving' my car not thrashing it to a pulp.

No.4 - just go away......

Is it just me?......

Your not alone. I can't stand tailgaters, but I also can't stand people who don't drive properly. There is no excuse for bad driving.

check out the poll on 'pet hates' there are so many issues i could rant about... tail gating has to be the most dangerous though, especially those kiddies...

im not oldie myself @ 22, but i realise how dangerous this practice is and what the silly person behind doesnt realise is that i have slowed down to 22 mph because you are dangerously close to my tail and should i need to brake suddenly, no way in hell are you going to outstop my golf....

and trucks, on the m.way the 40 mph speed limit applies to everyone, yes your big, yes you can block all sunlight from my rear, but honestly, do you really have to get that close to me ? :(

Ok deep breath......People who drive in the fast lane on the speed limit and wont pull over to let people past...........They are the first people to complain about people under taking them, if they want to do the speed limit, fine but dont hold everybody else up if someone wants to over take and get three points for doing it let em by! but just coz you are doing the speed limit dosnt mean you own the whole motorway, if you aint over taking someone get over to the left!!...... have a nice day:D

My favorite is to slide the car into second and engine break quite sharply down to tickover and cruise along nice and slowly whilst theres a few cars coming the other way, I feel this is my civic duty to drive with safety in mind where the person behind me cannot, then when your tailgator sees a gap and starts to turn behind you slide the car sharply back up to speed in front of them

i agree with the first part, but the latter just sounds dangerous, speeding up when the fool is overtaking you is endangering other road users, surely?

So you like to provoke people into driving dangerously???

I'm no speed demon by any means, but people who sit in the outside lane doing 70mph are making the motorways even more dangerous and risky because of the long tailback of cars behind doing 80mph(+)....

These people need to realise how dangerous this practise is, and again it provokes drivers into doing things they wouldn't normally do (ie undertake).

the outside lane isn't the fast lane.... it's an overtaking lane, so if your not overtaking... kindly move your shed over to the left (inside) lane.

and breathe....

While we're ranting
Middle lane drivers when there's no traffic anywhere else.

The idiot who, every morning, drives past my house with, what sounds like, an exhaustless Astra, fiver says you can watch your petrol needle drop as it pours out of your hot-water-cylinder-like tail pipe

The other idiot who, every morning, drives in the outside lane of the dual-carriageway for no reason at all. She pulls out of the same turning as me, onto the empty carriageway and proceeds to the outside lane without fail. When we reach a roundabout, she correctly uses the inside lane to go straight on and, you guessed it, pops right back out to the outside lane again. When I get behind her and need to pass, she pulls in, I pass and she pulls back out again.

I've mentioned this before in Carl's rant thread - The idiot in the X5 who can't "do" grassy banks

There are many many more and I'm by no means perfect, but come on!

***RANT UPDATE***

When I was talking about the limits etc I was talking about hte road home from work - this is a regular two way road. Not a M-way.

I do in fact use the M-way in the manner it is supposed to be used.

I don't claim to be the world's best driver but my road awareness (or road craft?) is far better than a hell of a lot of the knuckle heads out there.

Could not agree more.

People should either hurry up or get out of the way.

There's no need to provoke chavs in economy hatches, they will wipe themselves out without your help. The roadside kerbs around here are dotted with pathetic memorials to late night speeding and drink-driving. I call it Darwinism in reverse.

But that's the thing...

I don't provoke them at all.

They keep attempting to provoke me. And I don't bite. They're all tough guys and gals in their cars.....once out though and if standing toe to toe with me it's a whole other game - big bunch of sh!te pants

Its subjective to the situation and I wouldn't do it in any that were an endangermant to anyone else

So you like to provoke people into driving dangerously???

They are already doing so

A further rant...

People who cannot stay in 1 lane, I understand that occasionally people are out of there comfort zones in certain areas like islands that they haven't come across before and can easily forgive that they will cut the lanes BUT how hard is it to stay in 1 lane on a dual carriageway/mortorway

Sorry but i do have to add.

You having a go at kids in french cars tailgating....

Does this mean you don't care about anything else? sorry but i think this shouldnt be just aimed at young drivers who happen to be in a french car!

To be honest i see more BMW's than other, but hey im not pointing a stick at any one.

There all a pain in the ****, yeah - but please don't target people like that, infact i have many friends who love their french cars my self included who would get just as anoyed as you in the same situation and vice versa if an Audi was brooming up it!

I've had a few pretty fast cars and the amount of times i used to get passed by a car load of teenagers who couldn't wait to go tell their mates they wasted an evo at the lights (in the city centre!!!). That was one of the main reasons i sold it and bought my wee diesel golf. Oh, and the golf is cheap as chips to run :D:D

edit:- It's not just French cars. Don't forget the "souped up!!" corsa brigade !!

Last year when entering a 60 from a 30, the tailgaiting 'man in white van' decided to overtake me. I accelerated at a modest pace, and his white van struggled to pass. Thats not my fault. He eventually passes rather than giving up. In the wigglier part of the road, his van needs to slow down to make the turns, my car does not, so I catch him up. He gives me the 'bird'. Half a mile later, with me still following, we arrive at some lights over a narrow bridge. As I pull up behind him, he puts his van in reverse and attempts to ram me, coming to his senses a few inches from my front bumper. He then drives off at the green light. I also pull of at a low rate of acceleration because his van won't go fast up over the bridge. A few hundred yards later he turns off into his workplace (I know from the markings on the van).
All this happened in the space of a mile. What did he achieve apart from getting angry? Probably he arrived at his destination 5 seconds earlier.
Idiot.

We were in McD's car park yesterday, quite local to where we live. There is always the odd aircraft or two come into grab food. What I mean by aircraft are the Corsas and alike with big aeroplane wings and stuff above the window, bean can (jet) exhausts and big wheels (wheels look good sometimes mind). The sort of stuff on Barryboys, we always have a giggle at them and it is a treat to watch. However yesterday a guy came in, in a old mini (love mini's) with a roof rack, whizzing at speed around the car park like Mr Bean does his.

Shame about the food but we should go more often the car park is a scream!

Your post, while true, wasn't very thoughtful.

If you'd like to rephrase it, I'll happily restore it for all to see.

Mr Toker, it just so happened that I wrote this not long after a stupid girl in a french car had an incident with myself. No other reason. It applies to all eejits.

At one point in time I was quite fond of an AX GTi. It was a heap but it was reasonably quick for it's size and a lot of fun.

I have the ultimate weapon for tailgaters. :D This video kind of illustrates it although I wasn't deliberately smoking out this person - it was a mate from a car club. A couple of expletives in reaction so just a warning.

Iv got one word. TRACTOR.

Im fed up with them, i understand they have a job to do blah, blah, blah but why the hell do they not pull over when the have a HUGE tailback of cars/vans/lorries ect behind them?

When i say huge tailback i mean 30 cars at least(if you think im joking you travel the A15 from Deeping to Boston!) The reason i hate it so much is the fact they have fields and almost EVERY field is connected. USE THEM and keep the roads clear surely?

It may just be me but i hate them all, more than the Chavs ect as i know sooner or later they'll wrap it round a tree. Feel free to berate me but i had to get it off mt chest.

I'm very lucky to have cruise control on my VW Tauran so happily get it up to about 75 on the motorway and plod along using all 3 lanes if required. Very often I will make my way along the 1st lane to the point where I could undertake but I dont I simply move behind the car in the middle lane then move to the 3rd lane to overtake! Why then does the idiot I am about to overtake decide to get a heavy foot and undertake me in the middle of my overtaking move? I cant pin this down to any particular gender or car owner but what I do know is that I rarely experience this with Van Drivers. Also why do Lorry drivers do this to each other on 2 lane motorways for what seems like miles, surely it would make sense for the waggon in lane one to ease off the gas for 20 seconds to let the overtaking waggon past?
Does anyone else experience this sort of problem?

With regard to lorries John yes. PITA, mind you I am sure I ain't prefect :p
