View Full Version : Replacing Sound Insulation Foam?

I have been lying under my car quite alot lately (Avant 1.9TDI).

This is mainly due to correcting problems after unwisely taking it to a garage last week, after which more things needed fixing than before I had it looked at (but thats another story that I dont want to think about at the moment!).

After the engine under tray dropped off while driving (away from the garage) and the foam was all but destroyed, I wondered about replacing this, and the material around the axle tunnels, which has also disappeared over time.

Though this foam is preformed and has audi part numbers on it, dealer says this is not available. I wonder what the best stuff to use as a replacement is, obviously it should be proof against heat and oil products.

Anybody had a go at this and have the ideal solution?

Cheers,

Timk

Probably the best solution (as it would still use genuine parts) would be to buy a secondhand one from ebay. You should be able to identify a part number from your existing item.

It would save a lot of trial and error...

Hope that this helps,
