I recently bought an A6 estate 2.5tdi quattro (1997 C4) and have had it in the local audi specialist garage for some bits and bobs and get it all checked out etc.

It has had an oil change, new discs and pads front and rear and new fuel belt a new thermostat and the aircon sorted and the diff seal re done.

But the good news was I wasnt sure if the car had had the cambelt etc done, the service history says it was done by audi at 75k when the belt failed and they rebuilt the top end, and then very flimisly says it was done at 136k by some unknown garage.

It transpires that it had all been done including the water pump as I have had the front end stripped down today and they can confirm it is all new belts and pump etc, the car is now on 148k. I have had to pay a little labour for this confirmation, but well worth it to confirm and also how pleased that the garage actually told me and didn't charge me for the thing anyway!

Sounds like the A6 is getting a clean bill of health, they are a few rear bushes to change at some point and some minor suspension work, but sounds like it is pretty uptogether.

Car cost £2100 and the work is costing about £600-£700 todate which isnt too bad considering it now has brand new brakes allround and needs very little else!

Who knows I might be getting the alloys refurbed and the the odd little ding taken out soon too!

It is a great bus and extremely practical car and I dont mind spending a bit on it as I plan to keep it into classic status. Love the drive and even though it isnt very powerful glad I got the quattro.

Now then - can I tune it to 200bhp? Anyone done this to one of these or should I just leave it alone and get the carpet cleaner and polish to it!
