Help with an A3 turbo

Hi guys, im a newbie (currently driving a car from the land of the rising sun wishing to come back to the father land). Have been looking at A3 1.8t models for my g/f and need a little help with specs etc. Stumbled across an 97 on a P with black leather, loads of miles (not an issue) but NO climate control?? Is this common to earlier vehicles?? Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
