Well.............

Used engine de-greaser "Gunk" basically, and then gave it a good buffing afterwards. ;)

It looks quite clean, did you do all around the sides, bottom and the sump as well?

Did you buff so hard that you rubbed away half the engine?

;)

Seriously - look at all that space going to waste....

Get the other half of that V8 in there - that's what you shoud do that is...

I'm not so sure it's a complete waste; I could climb in with the engine on my old A6 and I could change the cam belt myself in 15 minutes.

With the Passat I have now, the entire front of the car has to be removed [bumper; lights, rad, aircon, fans etc.] before any work on the front of the engine can be attempted.

VW call this the 'extended service position' - someone must have had a sense of humour to come up with this phrase, but I wasn't laughing when I got the bill for a cam belt change - £18 for the belt and £300 labour...

Cheers

I have to agree guyg - sometimes German engineering is just utter crap.

That phrase 'German engineering' is just a license to print money.
