Hi, I have a MK3 golf gti 16v 2ltr 5dr (late '97). For a while now it has been rough while running. The idle is terrible and the worst holding back is at just before 3 thousand revs to 4 thousand then it seems to pull OK again. I have changed the throttle position sensor, had the throttle body cleaned, checked the air flow sensor / mass meter, checked HT leads, ignition coil, replaced lambda sensor, distributor cap and rotor arm, the distributor itself, crank sensor, replaced cracked breather tubes. None of these seem to make a difference. I have not tried the fuel relay as the car does not cut out. The exhaust is starting to go and has been getting progressively worse could this be the problem(I am getting a new one shortly).? It seems more electrical but have changed everything I can think of?? Also a diagnostics check shows no faults registered. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Jon

had a new exhaust now and the fuel relay still got the problem.
