Hi, hope someone can help here.
Car is a VW Golf GTi Mk3, 2000cc 8v, year 1995.
The ABS warning light is permanently on, so even if the car isnt moved it comes on with ignition and stays on. Brakes work fine, (haven't tried the ABS but I suspect that it isnt working).
Looking at forums I gather that the typical ABS error is a wheel sensor, but surely the car has to be moving to get a sensor error?
Just checking 12v supply now, main ABS fuse seems OK so next suspect is the relay - but then what?
Would appreciate any advice.:1zhelp:

Got the local VW specialist to do diagnostic tests.
Turned out to be BOTH front sensors gone, as part of my diagnosis i had taken an ohmeter reading of both sensors - and of course both appeared to be open circuit, so I assumed I was doing something wrong!

I understand now that its quite common for multiple sensors to be gone

I had the same problem on the same car!Ended up takin it to local VW Garage who diagnosed the rear left sensor was u/s and at the same time found a flexible brake pipe bulging.
They said they could fix all the issues c/w diagnosis for £345!
I purchased a sensor £45 & brake pipe £10 and did it myself
BEWARE.

vw specialists rather than vw garages are cheaper i reckon, theres a really good one here near to where i work and they have a good reputation.

Car doesn't have to be moving if the sensor is open circuit, for instance.

Get it diagnosed, if it's a sensor do it yourself, then get the DTC for ABS cleared.

Hope that helps.
