What's it for??

I've just bought at A3 tdi 130 sport, and while snooping around it I've noticed in the boot, behind a panel that pulls out of the left hand bulkhead (in front of the rear offside light cluster) theres a plastic box with a fan on it along the wheel arch. I have no idea what it does but would be very interested to end the speculation and find out! Anybody help?

Are you sure that's a fan?

Switch the radio on...if it plays sounds, then it is the sub woofer.

Hmmm... could well be, would there be a sub on a Sport trim, or would that be an extra?
