front & rear wipers and ABS failure light

passat 2.0 GL 1995
both the front and rear wipers and washers stopped working and the abs light has come on.
have checked fuses and they are o.k.
the rear wash wipe is on abs fuse, front wash wipe is on seperate fuse also ok.
when abs light came on I suspected faulty sensor so plugged in v.c.d.s. 805.4 (genuine) to find it.It came up with controller not responding which is odd as it has checked abs previously.
(the vcds is ok because it does the engine, airbags, and my B5.5 passat)
can''t find any loose plugs at rear of fuseboard and haynes is a blank.
can anybody shed some light please?

Problem solved-
decided to do a hot wire with switch on windscreen wiper motor due to the summer weather.
when powered up with the wiper switch on, the abs light went out and the blower started and the wipers worked.
went back to the circuit dia. to find where all are linked. It turns out they are all fed through the 'x' line power relay , switched by the ignition.
this is in position 4 but marked 18 on its top. That was changed and everything works without faults:o

However I bought a new wiper switch and rear abs sensor first because I thought they were faulty but never used them as the hotwire led me to the cause:zx11:
