Ah - spot of advice on bonnet release catch

MkIV Golf TDi

Just went to check on oil and top up screenwash. Pinged the in-car bonnet release - no problem. Pulled the 2nd exterior release tag only to find that it has snapped off it's mounting and came away in my hand, leaving the bonnet nicely shut. :aargh4:

Does anyone know the internals of the catch - could it be a simple hinged safety catch that I maybe able to release with a screw driver and a bit of jiggling, before I take it down to the local flease monkeys to have them look at it.

I think I read a post on this somewhere, do a search.
If I remember rightly, the owner had to get at it from underneath, which wouldn't be that easy, but they managed it.

Thanks - problem resolved (sort of) courtesy of Mssrs Ikea and a pack of their plastic picture hooks and 15 mins of picking and hooking until the latch was snagged and bonnet opened. Once open was able to reattach plastic catch
