ipod touch and 2008 MMI/AMI

I've just bought a 2008 (08 plate) A5 with MMI and AMI which had an iPod cable fitted when I got the car. Chuffed to bits with the car but I can't get the AMI to recognise my iPod touch, which has the latest Apple software.

The iPod cable is part number 4F0 051 510K
The version numbers from the MMI are:

SW: B8-HU 46.9.0 0725
HW: B8-HU 6329D2.0
FC SW: 06131AFCAB320100
FC PS: 0100 FC HW: H07

Can anybody help point me to whether it's a cable or software problem with either the AMI or MMI?

I believe there are 2 cables one for older cars and one for newer for AMI now. I would check with a dealer and ask them to look at it
