Not necessarily, it has not picked up an individual cylinder ID which is what you would expect to see in addition to the random/multiple code.

My mistake. Full Reading
Just ran VAG
Given me fault code
16684 - Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected.
P0300 - 001 Upper Limit Exceeded.
16686 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTC's
P0302 - 001 Please register / activate
Take it the second code is for cylinder 2 but its not a registered copy.
Any ideas. Didnt realise the second was to do with the car but with unregistered copy

“16686 Cylinder 2 misfiring detected”, probably the coil for cylinder 2 then…

if you think its the coil and want to make 100%sure do this
crear the codes then swap coils 1 and 2 run engine for half hour then rescan the engine and see if the miss fire has moved to cylinder 1
hope this helps

Good idea but the only reason I don’t suggest this is that removing the coil pack often causes them to fail, especially if you don’t have the correct puller.

All sorted. Got a genuine coil pack with the -R at the end of the part no.
Just had to work out what cylinder 2 was, what was easy by the process of elimination.
For anyone else, with a similar problem. It appears that cylinder 1 is at the very front of the car moving backwards.
Can someone else confirm the sequence of the cylinders.
Thanks for everyone help.
