Just wondering if driving 25miles every weekday at 60mph coupled with the odd short journeys would be ok to clear the latest generation DPF filters?

Does the new MK6 do auto regeneration where it injects a little fuel to the filter to aid burning off any soot?

Hi,

I do 25 miles a day at National speed limit and have never had an issue with my DPF on a Passat 170 TDI over the last 20,000 miles.

Regards,

Rich

I know this is written in English, but I have no idea what you're discussing here :o

What's a DPF (some kind of filter?) and why would you want it injected with fuel (petrol or diesel?) to clear the carbon deposits?

I'm foncused.

Pete

Thanks for that. Do we know if these are fitted to the mark VI Golf?

I'm not sure which engines they are fitted to. It's definitely on some of them.

Just did a little searching and the EURO 5 standard states "Making particulate filters compulsory" (http://www.euractiv.com/en/transport/euro-5-emissions-standards-cars/article-133325). When looking at the CO2 emissions section on the VW website, it shows all the cars (except the new 1.6TDI which is TBA) as being EURO 5 standard. http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/golf-vi/which-model/engines/emissions/

Does that mean all the diesels have the DPF filter?

All MK6 diesels do have the DPF filter and they will be compulsory on all diesels engines from 2010 onwards. The DPF have been troublesome on the old 'PD' diesel engines that's why you will find a lot of unhappy MK5 owners but they seem to be fine with the new CR diesel engines on the Mk6. You will also find the entire new Polo diesel range (to be launched in October) to have the DPF.

Thanks very much. Hope the new CR engines and improved ECU controlling the regeneration works without flaws
