hi there
i just bought 2004 a4 100bhp wiyh 130,000 miles .but clutch sometimes starts to rattle on tick over. but when you press clutch it goes away.the clutch does not slip and works fine.could anyone tell me what the problem is please. thanks

having the SAME problem!!!! Booked in it to VW they going to take alook..
I would of thought it could of been the bearings... We will see...
Look around the polo section i posted about it some time ago.

That's the thrust bearing you can hear singing away to itself.

At 130000 miles I seriously doubt it. It's just wear and tear

Take it to your local transmission man and ask him to fix it for you, I'd recommend getting a new clutch put in whilst your there

I believe this is the release bearing ,ive had a few cars which have done this and have done loads of miles in them with nothing going wrong.:)

Same as mainly in the fords i used to own and some stopped after a while and it dont hurt to drive with a noisy bearing and if you only drive short times then go for a good run and clean the old girl out so to speak it works wonders .
