Came across this browsing the Octavia parts catalogue, same part is also in the Superb catalogue.

Item is FDC 610 001 and is a chrome exhaust trim for the 1.4 TSI Octavia and Superb I wonder is this part would also fit the exhaust on the 1.4 TSI Golfs?

hi i measured the size of my exhaust tails ,had a look on ebay and i found s/s tail pipe trims for my gt 140 tdi, they are genuine audi ones so they look as good as the standard ones they fit on the gti
this is the only place i could find any that looked as standard

hi the best way is get the size of your exhaust first as the audi ones i got will be a lot bigger than yours ,and just have a search about but look for the stainless steel ones. the seller i got mine from was staffordaudipartshttp://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/s.gif

Found 2 on ebay are these similar to the ones you ordered?

Have a look at the following link which is VW Germany's Accessory list for the new Golf. The pictures show Golf V but I assume they are the same diameter on VI

Hi mate,

Have you fitted these yet? If not could you keep updated as I will be ordering some even though not getting my GT untill september.

I know its only minor mod but it really bugs me because it makes such a difference! So are they basically the tips that come on the new s-lines? Also just a thought what about the tips that come with the new GTD would they be available from vw or is the exhaust completely different on that?

nokiauk
28-07-2009, 10:20 PM
Not fitted them yet as I need to collect from Royal Mail tomorrow.

Hopefully they will fit ok.

I presume they are the same as the Audi S-Line but not sure.

The GTD does have chrome exhausts but whether they are added tips or a different exhaust then I'm not sure.

VW don't list tips as an accessory although Skoda do for the Octavia/Superb.

nokiauk

Well they never fitted they are 10mm too big!!, wonder if VW have changed their exhaust sizes recently as 1 member on here ordered the same and they fitted. Back to the drawing board it seems.

hi mate, iv"e got a golf mk6 1.4 tsi (122) .i"m sure its the same backbox as yours. like yourself i ordered from stafford audi a pair of twin pipes for the A3 and you can make them fit by bending the four spring grips downward and wedgeing something (i used stiff foam ) or cardboard under each one.it makes a tight fit when you slide it over the original pipe. at £55 i was determined they were gonna fit(lol) and upto now there still on and look great. it"s worth a try good luck.

I've ended up going the custom route and spoke to an exhaust manufacturer who is going to make some polished stainless tips made to fit, they will just slide over the originals and be tacked on at the back to secure them. I've gone for rolled in edges for a more OEM look. Pipes will end up as 2 x 2.5" and look similar to this:

They will cost £20 each plus VAT. A group buy could be explored, once they have fitted mine and presuming all GT's are the same whether petrol or diesel I could ask how much cheaper they could if there was enough interest for a batch of say 10 people.

Also P&P to consider to protect the tubing. Also any potential buyers would then need to arrange their own welding to secure them to the back box.

So Skoda = 50mm
Audi = 70mm
VW = 60mm

I'm still thinking about the ones the GTD has as standard. If these fit then surely can be purchased from VW not as an accessory but spare part??

nokiauk
31-07-2009, 03:10 PM
it's very possible but it may also come as a complete back box, which would prob cost about £150.

No point VW will not be producing trims as per this reply from VW:

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your recent query, unfortunatly Volkswagen do not use
stainless steel exhaust tips as the exhaust are now well finished on
vehicles and we do not feel the need to manufacture such a part.

Hi Nokiauk how did you get on with your pipes, you get them sorted?
My GT will be diesel, did you not say in an earlier post you measured yours and a colleagues diesel and they were both the same? As I am interested in a possible group buy.

nokiauk
04-08-2009, 06:14 PM
I'm not getting mine done until Friday, once I'm there I will investigate with the company whether they would be willing to supply tips made to the same measurements as mine for a discounted price, once I was able to get some confirmed orders.

I would then have to investigate P&P costs or could see the the company would be willing to post.

My colleagues car is a diesel and did have the same size pipes but there is at least one diesel MK6 on this forum that seems to have 70mm pipes, be best to measure yours just in case.

Bear in mind that even if I can get tips supplied you will still have to arrange some welding to get them secured.

Well got mine fitted this morning, asked about bulk supply but was told as they are a small local firm they didn't want to really get involved, they also said as they went made and fitted to my requirements and my car, an off the shelf build for many cars isn't something they recommended.

Was it a tight fit when you slipped them over your exhaust?

nokiauk

They are 61mm internal so as to fit over the existing pipes, but are 2.5" (63.5mm) external, not really a tight fit but as they are welded on from the back doesn't matter too much.

I ordered the trims for myself to fit after collection.

The guy on the service department told me I'd have to remove some of the exhaust to fit, at this point I bottled out ! (Yeti has quite a nice twin exhaust as is, even though only a 1.2....).

I don't think they fit by u-bolt clamp or something similar.

As not for a golf, they may fit easier ?

Why not ring the dealer and ask ?

Well I collect the Exhaust Trim from Skoda this morning.
I have fitted them which took at matter to 15mins, not long at all. However I did not do as per the instruction because they want you to you cut off the tips of the exhaust and I am not happy do thing that.

However I have attached a picture. They look good and well cool. I can't believe VW does not fit these as standard, as they are being made for the VAG group already.

bakwa1

They fit on with 4 internal clamps, which are all equal length from the rear of the trim. That is why that suggest cutting the exhaust to remove the tapered part to made it straight.

I forced the exhaust trim past these to almost fit flush with the exhaust pipe. I have attached a close up picture you can just see the end of pipe.

So attached picture of the instruction leaflet, so you can see for yourselves.

They are a very tight fit and will not come off. So overall I am very happy with them.

Does the 1.4 TSI 160PS have a single or twin tail pipe as standard?

Well I don't need any but reading the spec here it appears to be 60-61mm

VW GOLF MK2 MK3 MK4 3 4 5 TAIL PIPE EXHAUST TRIM TIP (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK2-MK3-MK4-3-4-5-TAIL-PIPE-EXHAUST-TRIM-TIP-/150493776930?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item230a20cc22)

It appears the Audi A3 have chrome tail pipe that should fit. They do a single pipe trim for exhaust tail pipe - 8P0 071 771 - £32.

And a twin pipe trim for exhaust tail pipe twin pack - 8P0 071 761 - £56. ;)

Obviously the dearer ones are made from stainless steel whereas the cheaper eBay ones are probably just cheap chrome plating. You pays you money and you take a chance.

I had the original chrome tail pipes on my Rover 216 GTi and I had that 16 years and the chrome was still perfect. The only problem was the captive nut that secured it that came loose so I tacked a couple of ordinary 8mm nuts on and coated them with my special exhaust lubricate, they always came undone afterwards. ;)

Just fitted the Yeti tips to the mrs "new" 60 plate 2.0 GT TDi. Talk about spot on!

It took literally 2 minutes using just a rubber headed mallet (no wood) and very, very gentle tapping, without cutting the existing pipes to vertical.

The slant on the pipes isn't perpendicular it's slightly offset and with the tips rotated slightly to line up, the existing pipe comes up flush with the lip of the tips and looks superb.

Although the tips fit so tight it's almost impossible to rotate them whilst fully on, they can be tapped back towards and rotated to perfection whilst tapping. Also they are easy to remove completely with gentle tapping if you want to replace them or give them a good polish.

£27...bargain.
