5th gear...what speed?

I noticed last night that my golf (2.0tdi se) really doesn't like being in 5th unless it's doing over approx 38mph. It makes an awful rattling sound as if it's really struggling

5th gear at <38mph - it probably is really struggling!
I don't have a diesel. What revs are you doing at this speed?

Hmm, not sure why you are using such a high gear at a low speed like that. You will be labouring the engine at that speed.

My petrol 140 sounds ok in 6th at 30 (assuming its flat and you've reached that momentum using the other gears)
